In this session, we’ll explore how cultural narratives shape the futures people find imaginable, desirable, or inevitable, and what this means for facilitators working with groups around change, strategy, and uncertainty.
Expect time for practical exercises and reflection. You’ll have the opportunity to examine your own assumptions about the future, notice differences across perspectives, and experiment with simple ways of opening up narrative space in facilitation.
We’ll close by reflecting on what narrative awareness makes possible in practice, and the responsibility facilitators carry when shaping conversations about the future.
Useful for:
This session will be useful for facilitators who want to deepen their ability to work with meaning, culture, and worldview when supporting groups to make sense of change.
Important: we often use breakout rooms, whiteboards, and plenary discussions. Please be prepared to turn on your camera, use your mic, and participate.
What’s the point of this SIG?
The Facilitating Futures & Foresight SIG focuses on helping facilitators help others make sense of change, identity, and choice, using futures and facilitation approaches.
Sessions are designed as “learning-by-doing” and “learning-by-sharing” experiences. You don’t need prior futures expertise. Come curious, willing to reflect, and open to engage.
