From the beginning of my work with IAF, I have seen my role as helping build an Association that is sustainable, effective, and positioned for the future. Meaningful change inevitably brings different viewpoints, and I welcome that. It shows that people care deeply about IAF and its future, and I am grateful for the commitment so many people continue to bring to our community.
As facilitators, we know the value of bringing diverse voices into important conversations. Over the past two years, I’ve learned a tremendous amount through discussions with members, chapters, special interest groups, regional leaders, assessors, volunteers, committees, current and former Board leaders, and partners around the world. Some of those conversations have taken place in meetings and consultations, others in smaller groups or one-on-one discussions. While not every conversation happens in the same forum or includes the same people, each has helped shape my understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing IAF. While participation is essential, leadership also requires listening carefully, considering different perspectives, and ultimately making decisions that best support the long-term health of the Association. I don’t expect everyone to agree with every decision. In fact, I’ve learned that if everyone agrees with every decision, I’m probably not doing much leading. What I can promise is that I will continue listening, learning, and doing my best to help IAF grow and thrive.
The membership survey is one of the most important ways we consult with our community because it gives every member a chance to be heard. Whether you’re highly engaged in IAF activities or rarely participate in Association discussions, your perspective matters. We want every member to experience the value of belonging to IAF, and understanding your perspective is an important part of that. If you haven’t yet completed the survey, I encourage you to do so before 14 September. Your feedback will help ensure that the Board and I hear from the broadest possible range of voices as we shape IAF’s next strategic plan and priorities together.
Warm regards,
Kathrina Loeffler
